Lake Llanquihue, Osorno volcano, the Petrohué falls, Lake Todos los Santos and Frutillar: a seven-day itinerary.

Puerto Varas, on the shore of Lake Llanquihue and facing Osorno volcano, is the best base to explore the Lake District. Here is a plan for one week.
Days 1 and 2: Puerto Varas
Known as the "city of roses", it keeps the mark of German settlers in its architecture and food. Walk the waterfront, try the local pastries and watch the volcano reflected in the lake.
Day 3: Osorno volcano and the Petrohué falls
In Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, the Petrohué falls tumble over volcanic rock in shades of green and blue, with the volcano behind. Depending on the season, you can go up the slopes of Osorno.
Day 4: Lake Todos los Santos
With emerald-green water, it can be explored on boat trips from Petrohué.
Day 5: Frutillar
A town founded by German settlers in the mid-19th century, home to the Teatro del Lago, stage of the country's main classical music festival.
Days 6 and 7: Puerto Montt and Chiloé
End the trip with seafood at Angelmó, in Puerto Montt, and, if there is time, cross the Chacao channel to Chiloé.
Tips
- The weather changes quickly: bring rain gear in any season.
- Boat times and volcano access: check before you go.
