Tourism in Purmamarca
Purmamarca is a village in Jujuy province, in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a World Heritage Site. It had 891 inhabitants in the 2010 census and is framed by the Hill of Seven Colors, one of the best-known sights of northern Argentina. Its church dates from 1648.
It lies on National Route 52, which climbs to the Jama Pass, at about 4,200 meters, where border formalities are done. On the other side lies San Pedro de Atacama, which is why many travelers combine northern Argentina and the Atacama Desert in one trip.
You will feel the altitude: go up gradually, drink plenty of water and check the pass status before setting off.
