A heritage zone since 2010, it keeps the wooden houses, hotels and sheds from its days as the lake's main port.

At the northern end of Lake Llanquihue, sheltered from the wind by the Centinela peninsula, Puerto Octay was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the lake's main port and northern gateway.
The heritage zone
In 2010 an area of about 23 hectares around the main square, the church of San Agustín and the bay was declared a Typical Zone. It keeps wooden houses, hotels and sheds where the traditions brought by German settlers blended with the techniques of Chilote carpenters.
What to do
- Walk the centre and waterfront, admiring the old houses.
- Visit the Centinela peninsula, with beaches and views of the lake and volcanoes.
- Continue around Lake Llanquihue.
Tips
- Many of the houses are private homes: admire them from the street.
