The lake circuit, an island with a Mapuche community and fly-fishing rivers: a two-day plan.

Futrono, on Lake Ranco in the Los Ríos Region, is a good base to explore one of the largest lakes in southern Chile.
Day 1: around the lake
Driving around Lake Ranco is the best way to discover its villages, beaches and lookouts. On the way, the Llifén area and the Calcurrupe river are famous among fly-fishing enthusiasts.
Day 2: Huapi island
Opposite Futrono, Huapi island is home to a Mapuche-Huilliche community; visiting it is a chance to learn about their culture and life by the lake.
More to do
- Horse rides and rural tourism on local farms.
- Hot springs and local food around the lake.
Tips
- To visit Huapi island, check boat times and respect the community's rules.
- The fishing season has set dates and licences: check before you go.
