The coast north of Viña del Mar packs protected nature, Pacific lookouts and great food into a few kilometres.

Concón, north of Viña del Mar, makes a good day trip. These are the essential stops, from south to north.
Morning: the dunes
Concón's great dunes are a nature sanctuary with sea views. Walk in the permitted areas and respect the protected zones.
Mid-morning: the wetland
At the mouth of the Aconcagua river, the Concón wetland is one of central Chile's most valuable ecosystems and a good place for birdwatching.
Lunch: the empanada capital
Concón is famous for its seafood and its shellfish empanadas: the coves and the waterfront have plenty of options.
Afternoon: Roca Oceánica
End the day at Roca Oceánica, a rock formation over the Pacific with trails and lookouts to watch the sunset.
Tips
- Summer weekends are busy on the coast road: set off early.
- Bring a jacket for sunset: the sea breeze is cool.
