In the town where Lake Llanquihue becomes a river: kayaking, wetlands with over 70 bird species and wooden sculptures.

The town of Llanquihue, between Puerto Varas and Frutillar, lies on the lake of the same name and on both sides of the source of the Maullín river. That is why it was once called "Desagüe" (Outlet): here the lake drains into the river, which runs to the Pacific.
The river
The source of the Maullín is a few metres from the town's old bridge. The river can be explored by kayak or on boat trips, a different way to see the area.
Birds
Lagoons, streams and urban wetlands surround the town: more than 70 bird species have been recorded, with more variety from October to March.
More to do
Stroll the streets decorated with wooden sculptures and continue along the lakeshore.
Tips
- For kayaking, go with local operators and wear a life jacket.
- Bring binoculars for the birds.
