Lago Verde is a mountain village in the far north-east of the Aysén Region, about 5 km from the Las Pampas border crossing into the Argentine province of Chubut. Since 1992 a cross-country road has linked it to La Junta and the Carretera Austral.

Fishing

Between La Junta and Lago Verde flow some of Aysén's best waters for recreational fishing, in rivers and lakes ringed by mountains.

On horseback and on foot

The surroundings invite horse rides, hikes and camping, amid Patagonian rural life. There are also rock paintings near the village.

Tips

  • The road is gravel: drive carefully and fill up in La Junta.
  • Fishing requires a licence and has a season.
  • If you plan to cross into Argentina, check the crossing's hours and requirements.
