Tours and Activities:
Volcanic Alert
The Villarrica Volcano is part of the city´s main tourist circuits, reflecting how well prepared Pucón is to respond to any natural events that may arise from its surroundings.
The volcano has stood in the same place for centuries and belongs to a mountain range with similar characteristics, whose activity has manifested throughout history. The town of Pucón was founded at its feet, grew under the protection of the natural beauty that surrounds it, and has since learned to listen to and respect the calls of its volcanic forces.
Thanks to accumulated experience, modern monitoring systems are now in place to track the volcano’s activity continuously and anticipate potential episodes. Specialized personnel oversee this monitoring, and both municipal authorities and technical agencies are prepared to respond swiftly in the event of an emergency.
Community protection is based on prevention, knowledge, and an established organization. Should volcanic activity pose risks, such as lahars descending its slopes, the local community knows how to respond and which designated safe areas to reach. Visitors are encouraged to pay attention to the volcanic alert traffic light located in front of the municipal building, as well as to the clearly marked evacuation routes indicated by signage throughout the town.
It is worth noting that the ski resort and numerous summer excursions feature the volcano as their main attraction. Hotel managers, tour operators, and service providers are familiar with the protocols to follow in the event of seismic activity or an eruption. These natural phenomena are understood as part of the region’s character, and the key lies in acting calmly and efficiently according to the established alert level.
Rather than being surprised by preventive signage in public spaces, visitors are encouraged to see it as a clear and reassuring tool, an expression of awareness and preparedness that allows everyone to enjoy the destination responsibly and with peace of mind.
