Harmony of the night
After sunset, the city reveals another side of itself: the streets light up, restaurants fill with people, and activity and entertainment continue well into the night.
If there is something that defines Puerto Varas, it is that its rhythm does not slow down when the sun goes down. Along its illuminated waterfront and in both its lively and quieter streets, there are countless options to enjoy dinner, listen to music,simply stroll by Lake Llanquihue under the stars.
Just other cities in the Los Lagos Region have their boardwalks by the sea, Puerto Varas boasts a beautiful promenade that never sleeps. In summer, young musicians and artisans share their art late into the night while visitors walk along the viewpoints, watching the reflections of the lights shimmer on the water.
Cassis: southern flavors at any hour
In the heart of Puerto Varas, right in front of the Pedraplén Pier, the Cassis Cafe and Restaurant seems to never close its doors. With its cozy atmosphere and traditional German-style pastries, it remains a favorite spot for locals and tourists a. It offers coffee, chocolates, ice cream, savory dishes, and desserts at any time of the day.
Looking for a casual dinner, we chose a table on the upstairs terrace to try some of the shared dishes suggested on the menu. We could not resist the olives with cured ham, goat cheese, and alioli; breaded seafood, octopus, and squid; mushrooms sauteed in whit wine; and fried calamari with tartar sauce. Everything was accompanied by craft beer and Chilean wine, enjoyed with a view of the lake.
Arm in arm along the shore
After dinner, we decided to walk along the renovated Vicente Pérez Rosales waterfront, feeling the fresh air of Lake Llanquihue and leisurely admiring the colorful lights of the lampposts and the reflections of the coastal buildings on the water´s surface.
The avenue stretches from Mount Phillipi to Puerto Chico, and is part of International Route 225, which leads to Ensenada, the Pretrohué River, and Lake Todos los Santos, before crossing into San Carlos de Bariloche. Along the shoreline, elegant hotels, restaurants, and the renowned Yacht Club add sophistication to the view.
The temptations of Dreams Casino
Later that night, we headed to the Hotel Dreams de los Volcanes, a modern complex combining a casino, hotel, and event center right by the lake. Though we are not regular gamblers, curiosity led us to explore its rooms filled with roulette tables, slot machines, and blackjack, all buzzing with excited visitors.
Beyond the casino, the venue hosts live shows, art exhibitions, and a restaurant offering one of the best night views in the city. We decided to enjoy a drink and some music before returning to our cabin.
When the stars light up the southern sky, Puerto Varas stays awake. Between flavors, music, and the shimmering reflections of Lake Llanquihue, every visitor finds their own rhythm and a reason to return. That is how we said goodbye to this lakeside city, where the night carries both the serene charm of nature and the warmth of its people.
