Also called Plaza de Armas, it is surrounded by Colón, Valdivia, Caupolicán and Lautaro Streets. This colonial square is the ideal start for a tour around the city main streets.

Various generations take possession of one public space at this square. Both youths and senior citizens search for their place to spend some time and have fun.

Various fancy hotels and restaurants cluster around the square. One of its most ancient corners lodges the town hall and the Bernardo O’Higgins building in front.


A Historical Building and Much More

This building houses the local library and the High Frontier Museum. A room for artistic displays and another one for natural species also invite visitors to spend some time inside this beautiful and recycled building. The Bernardo O’Higgins room invites them to see some essential aspects of such an important natural figure. O’Higgins was also the first Republican mayor, the first provincial representative and the creator of the militia that fought for National Independence.

The undercover municipal market is a typical spot in the city, where it is possible to taste the most representative dishes of the Bío-Bío region every day of the year. Located on Villagran Street, this typical popular market shows visitors all the variety of Chilean food, as well as some exclusive and exotic dishes that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.

Los Angeles has it all. Founded as a fort in May 26, 1739 with the name of Santa María de los Angeles, today it is a city that has experienced a successful growth, where hotels and restaurants have settled down and created a tourist development that gains more and more supporters.
