A Day on the BeachPablo Etchevers Pablo Etchevers (2) Jorge González (1)
There is no doubt that El Laucho and La Lisera Beaches are the most beautiful in the City of Arica and the place where visitors may enjoy the most relaxing baths in town.
Summer visitors to any seaside city always expect to have fine weather to enjoy the sea. In Arica, all days, except winter days, are ideal.
Although there are some common elements, not all visitors enjoy the sea in the same way. There are those who choose scuba diving, surfing, fishing, paragliding, swimming or even hiking on the sand. The good thing is that this city and its outskirts offer the possibility to satisfy these demands if one heads for the right place, which almost always lies a few minutes away from the historical center.
For many people, El Laucho is the best bathing resort in the City of Arica. It lies a few meters away from ex Alacrán Island. Featuring fine sands and clear waters, it has become fashionable in the last few years, when various beach bars were settled to offer modern and exotic options for visitors.
Signature cuisine dishes made with fresh fish or excellent prawn risotto accompanied by fine beer and Chilean wine are part of the exclusive menus which provide a high level service opposite the sea.
Its sands mingle with umbrellas printed with well-known world trademarks and various beach bars. Some of them are decorated with whicker and straw elements. Others feature a more youthful and avant-garde atmosphere, playing electronic music and presenting famous DJs who capture the attention of new generations.
La Lisera, Suitable for all Audiences
Photographs show La Lisera as one of the most beautiful beaches in the City of Arica. In fact, it is much prettier and more attractive that in the pictures and it lures thousands of people of all ages, especially families.
No sooner does the sun rise than the bathing resort is invaded by men and women who hike along the shore, jog, jump, work out and even cycle. It is important to do this in the early morning and this is a daily routine at La Lisera practiced as punctually as if there was a clock on the beach.
At noon, this kind of people leave the beach to give way to complete families that settle down on the sand to spend the day and enjoy the sun and the fresh water. In a matter of minutes, the desolate sea is visited by swimmers.
As the sun sets and some begin to leave, it is time for scuba diving at La Lisera and its surroundings. Black or phosphorescent neoprene suits, along with oxygen tanks, goggles and snorkels become the protagonists in a sea that gets more and more beautiful, calm as a pool.
Only two kilometers towards the North of La Lisera, lies Brava Beach, a worldwide known place for surfing in Arica.
Everyday, dozens of youths and adults gather on their way into the sea to test the quality of these waves and come close to the mermaids’ whisper.
